Test an outgoing call

Place a test call from the dashboard and check how your agent behaves.

An outgoing call lets your agent start a phone conversation. Use the dashboard's test form to hear the agent from the customer's side before connecting an automated workflow.

Test calls are real phone calls and consume voice minutes. Use a destination you control or a person expecting the test.

Before you start

Open your voice agent and select Developer → Outgoing Calls. The screen shows what is missing if outbound calling is not available:

  • An API token must be configured for this testing screen.
  • Your workspace needs access to outbound calling.
  • The screen needs an eligible Bring Your Own Twilio number to call from.

Follow the setup action shown on the page, then choose a number listed as eligible for outgoing calls.

Place the test call

  1. Under Test Outbound Calls, choose a From Number.
  2. Enter the destination in To Number, including + and the country code.
  3. Select Initiate Call.
  4. Answer the call and try the scenario you want the agent to handle.

Check that the opening makes sense for a call the agent started. An inbound “How can I help?” greeting may not explain the purpose of an outbound reminder. Review Behavior → Greeting and any conditional opening rules before repeating the test.

Check the result

A successful initiation message confirms that the call was started. Open Calls to check whether it was answered and review the outcome and available transcript.

If the form reports an unclear or failed result, check the call history before starting another call. This helps avoid calling someone twice when the first request was already accepted.

Connect an automated workflow

The API Reference section on the Outgoing Calls screen is for your developer. It explains the details needed to start calls from another system. The full contract, readiness checks, and retry rules are in the separate Chatbyte API reference.
